Highlights of Exemplary Practices Aligned with the 18 Characteristics of Successful Middle Schools

Lee County Middle School West embraces the middle school concept by providing structures that foster academic growth, meaningful relationships, and student ownership of learning. Through individually scheduled WIN (What I Need) classes, students receive targeted enrichment or intervention based on their unique academic needs, ensuring instruction is personalized and responsive. Our looping advisement model allows students to build lasting relationships with a trusted adult advocate who provides consistent guidance, monitors academic and social-emotional progress, and supports goal setting over multiple years. Additionally, students are given numerous opportunities to take an active role in their learning by setting goals, tracking their progress, reflecting on their achievement, and making informed decisions that promote independence, accountability, and lifelong learning.
