The Successful Middle School Schedule Author Workshop

AMLE Author Workshop

  • Facilitated by: Ann McCarty, Author
  • Featuring: AMLE Schools of Distinction Principals

Perhaps no decision a middle school leader makes has a broader or more lasting impact than the master schedule. A well-designed schedule shapes student belonging, equity, and achievement while also influencing teacher collaboration, instructional effectiveness, and overall school culture. When done thoughtfully, the schedule becomes a powerful tool to bring a school’s vision for young adolescents to life.

In this interactive online author workshop, Ann McCarty, author of The Successful Middle School Schedule, 2nd Edition, will guide participants through the updated framework, tools, and thinking behind effective middle school scheduling. Registration includes a copy of the book, which will serve as the foundation for the session and an ongoing resource participants can continue to use with their leadership teams.

Drawing directly from the second edition, Ann will explore both the cultural and technical sides of scheduling and how leaders can move from intention to implementation using the structures, models, and case studies outlined in the text.

Participants will also hear directly from AMLE Schools of Distinction principals as they share real-world examples of their master schedules featured in the book and beyond, including what has worked, what they refined along the way, and how their schedules support students and staff in meaningful ways. These authentic case studies bring the concepts in The Successful Middle School Schedule to life and offer practical models participants can learn from and adapt.

This workshop is designed for principals, assistant principals, district leaders, and leadership teams who are revisiting their schedules or considering new approaches for the coming school year.

Workshop participants will:

  • Receive a copy of The Successful Middle School Schedule, 2nd Edition
  • Explore key updates and insights from the new edition
  • Examine the “Why, How, and What” of effective middle school scheduling
  • Learn how leadership, culture, and equity shape scheduling decisions
  • Review common scheduling models and core building blocks
  • Hear practical examples from AMLE Schools of Distinction principals
  • Have the opportunity to ask Ann McCarty and featured school leaders specific scheduling questions

The session will be interactive and discussion-driven, with opportunities to reflect, collaborate, and connect with fellow middle school leaders.

The session will be recorded and made available to registered participants for a limited time following the workshop.
