Highlights of Exemplary Practices Aligned with the 18 Characteristics of Successful Middle Schools

Our school deeply embodies the Essential Attributes of Culture and Community and Leadership and Organization, demonstrating a commitment to creating an inclusive environment where students thrive developmentally, socially, and academically.

A cornerstone of our school culture is our focus on creating a Safe, Inclusive, and Affirming Environment. To proactively cultivate peer respect and belonging, we recently partnered with ADL New England to bring anti-bias and school-climate initiatives directly into our school community. We intentionally reinforce a positive school climate on a daily basis through positive recognition—including regular "good news" calls home to celebrate both student and staff achievements. Additionally, our revamped master schedule prioritizes whole-child development, providing students with a successful, dedicated advisory program that fosters strong adult-student relationships, as well as an expanded array of extracurricular activities that allow young adolescents to explore their interests, build connections, and feel a sense of belonging.

Furthermore, we embody the characteristics of Family and Community Partnerships by prioritizing open communication and accessible, meaningful engagement. Recognizing that strong relationships with caregivers drive student success, we host regular "Coffee with Administrator" events—offering families an informal, collaborative space to build trust, discuss school initiatives, and ask questions.

Together, these initiatives reflect a responsive middle-level philosophy that honors the voice, well-being, and unique needs of every student, staff member, and family in our community.
